I noticed that contacts that I text frequently are showing up in my spotlight searches with text messages that have been deleted. I know that I can exclude messages from the search, but I'd rather just not have deleted messages show up. Is there any way to delete SMS messages from my phone permanently?
I have an iPhone and I just recently discovered that old SMS messages even after I sync the phone with my Mac, are showing up in my spotlight search. I do not like this for very good reasons. I was wanting to know if there was anyway to permanently delete these messages to keep them from coming back?
We all want to delete sms on iPhone sometimes. Whether that's because you want to keep your Messages app tidy or because a message had something in it you don't want someone else to see, it seems that no method can really clear our inbox messages. A simple swipe usually takes care of things. It turns out that deleting iPhone text messages isn't so simple.
Here I strongly recommend this data eraser: iPhone Data Eraser. It enables you to delete the whole messages on your iPhone with one click, regardless of how many you have. The deleted messages will be automatically overwritten by junk files and become unrecoverable. Afterwards, none of your personal messages can be recovered by any recovery software, even with the most advanced recovery tool. This software works great for iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5, iPhone 4S, iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS. So it also works on your phone. There are the steps below. Deleting iPhone SMS is so simple according to the steps.
Step 1. Do backup your iPhone
Before you begin the next step, you should seriously do a full backup of your important data first. All data on your iPhone will be totally wiped and can't be retrieved. To get the messages deleted permanently, you can't restore your iPhone from iTunes or iCloud, or the deleted data will also be restored.
Step 2. Run iPhone Data Eraser and connect your iPhone
After backing up your iPhone data, run iPhone Data Eraser and get your iPhone connected to the computer with a USB cable.
Step 3. Select the right option
When the software detects your iPhone, you'll see two options appearing on the main window. Choose the first one: Erase all content and settings. The second one will come out in the next version
There are three security levels to erase all data on your device. You can choose any of them according to your requirement. Higher levels will ask for more time. Here, let’s choose the medium one.
Tips: Low: Overwrite all of your data with zeros to ensure that the files are not recoverable.
Medium: Overwrite your device with junk files to ensure that the files are not recoverable, and no one knows that you've erased your device.(the default one)
High: Erase and overwrite your device three times, and the security standard is based on the U.S. DOD 5220.22-M, more secure for confidential data destruction on your device.
Step 4. Start permanently deleting SMS from your iPhone
Then click the Start button coming out in the next window. The software begins deleting all data on your iPhone now. Keep your iPhone connected all the time during the process. When it's complete, you can get a totally new iPhone.
Note: Don't try to restore your iPhone from iTunes or iCloud, or the deleted messages will come back. Transfer the useful data that you've backed up previously to your iPhone. You can put it back to your iPhone after the deleting.
You can't find any old messages on it, even with data recovery tools. As a matter of fact, the tool supports from iOS 5.0 to iOS 7.0, including iPhone, iPad and iPod. Here are file types supported to erase, such as message, contact, email, note, reminder, system setting, photo, bookmark and more.
